Are you planning a group meeting? Or are you going to new surroundings with new people? It is always awkward to start a conversation among the group when you barely know anyone. Be it a new workplace or first of school/college. It is always important to have a strong bonding between colleagues to give their 100%. Icebreaker games come in handy when your mission is to make everybody comfortable with each other. Starting a meeting or gathering with "hello, how are you all doing?" Or asking everybody to introduce themselves is not enough to break the ice. These 10 Icebreaker Games are the best to do its work as it says. The best part is these games can be played physically as well as virtually.
1. Icebreaker: The Envelope Game
The envelope ice-breaking game is best to know a little more about each other in a fun way. Every person in the room writes something interesting about themselves on a piece of paper then all paper is put under an envelope or a bowl. Everyone picks up the random paper each and reads out loud whatever is written inside and also has to guess who wrote it. If the game is to be played online then anyone among everyone becomes the leader. Everybody writes something about themselves and DM the leader. The leader then has to send random write-ups to everyone in the group and similarly everyone has to read the text loudly and guess who it might be.
2. Icebreaker: TP Game
The TP (toilet paper) game is another fun fact game. A roll of toilet paper is handed to any one of the group members then they have to tear as many squares as they want and pass it to another player. In the end, everyone is asked to count the number of squares they have and share the same number of facts about themselves. It is advisable not to unveil the bottom line, i.e., they have to share as many facts as the squares.
To play it online toilet paper is not required. You ask everyone to choose a number between 1-5 or 1-10. After that, they have to share the number of facts according to the number they chose. For example, if anyone chose 4 then they have to share any 4 facts about themself.
3. Icebreaker: Story Time
As suggested by the name all the group members have to tell a random story with a little twist. The game starts with "Once upon a time,". One player starts the story and the rest has to continue or complete the story. For example, if one player starts like, " Once upon a time, there was a boy..." and the next player continues it like, "he lived in a village with his grandma..." and it continues until the last player completes it. It might sound cliché but the fun part is anyone can twist the story and make it as serious or funny as they want to. There is no hard and fast rule. It can be played in the same way online as explained.
4. Icebreaker: Charades
The one in the group is divided into teams with two players each. Then a random word is shown to one of the members which he/she has to act on and the other team member needs to guess the word. A limited time is given to the team members. The more they identify the words the greater will be their winning chance. The words could be composed of anything like the movie, songs, objects, celebrities, etc.
5. Icebreaker: Two Truths & A Lie
In this game, one person among the groups tells 3 facts about them which are actually not all true. Any one of those 3 facts is a lie. The other member in the group needs to identify which one is a lie and which ones are the truth. It is a fun way to know something about others as it's not always easy to know someone new, right? It can be played in the same way virtually.
6. Icebreaker: The Scavenger Hunt
A scavenger hunt could be tedious to organize and can also be time taking but it is always fun. To make it less time-consuming, we have got the right solution. Divide the group into teams of as many players as you want then ask them to hold as many objects as the team members, making sure everybody has different items. Ask them to hide it wherever they want inside the room if you don't make it too time-consuming. After they are done all the team needs to write up the hints so that the other team can find them and share the hints with other teams. In the end, the team with the highest number of items wins. If the game is to be played online then it is not important to collect the exact items but the items which match the description. Like, "the cleaning object near you" the members can send the picture of the cleaning objects near them. Everybody may have different object pictures but if it matches the description then it's a pass. Virtually nobody needs to be in a team.
7. Icebreaker: No common Words
The games go as suggested by the name. In the game, anyone can be the leader of each round. Where the leader asks everybody to describe a certain thing in one word, for example, "describe your life in one word". The members are given 1-2min to think and come up with a word. After that everybody will say the word, members with different words get the pass and are saved. Members with similar words will be asked to do crazy, funny dares. Make sure the dares are interesting because that is what will light up the mood.
8. Icebreaker: Never Have I Ever
Never have I ever is basically a drinking game but if you are in a situation where drinks are not allowed then it still could be a fun one. All the members need to hold their hands showing all the fingers up then anyone in the group can ask or say anything like " never have I ever peed on the bed". The ones who have done it will have to put a finger down. The one with all the fingers down will have to do a dare and the others win.
9. Icebreaker: Identify the Song
In the game, the reader will have to prepare songs translated into another language, like if it's an English song then it can be translated into Hindi or vice versa, and keep all the songs in a bowl. Every member needs to draw one piece of paper and guess what song it is by translating it. It is funny because the translation is hilarious.
10. Icebreaker: Talent Show
Everybody has a talent, some are mind-blowing and some are hilarious but we all are proud of our talents, right? There is nothing much to do in this game, everybody needs to show their talent and the best one wins. It is a fun game because all talents are not jaw-dropping, some are enough to make you tear up out of laughter. Make sure it's a game to have fun, not a competition. So, these were the top icebreaking games for your next gathering. What do you think about them? It is always nice to meet new people and get to know new personalities.
